About Me
As a writer committed to social change, I use words to challenge beliefs, encourage accountability, and foster inclusion. Rooted in Texas ancestry, I was born and raised in Washington State. Growing up, I was deferentially prepared to navigate the world as a participant and as an outsider. Learning the dichotomies of my Christian faith, race, and gender have shaped my writing and ability to be empathetic to the readers who find these topics difficult.
I practice vulnerability in sharing my experiences. A former American diplomat, I was intimately exposed to the influence and world critique of my beloved country. This allows me to provide a dynamic perspective on societal issues. My travels to India, Sub-Saharan Africa, Brazil, and Fiji inspire my work. These expanded my understanding of how history impacts social structures, our identity, and how we see the world.
I combine reflective, informative, and persuasive styles to educate and engage readers. I pose questions to evoke feelings and empower reader to take an active role in their environments. My work, such as “In the Corridors: Where Culture, Reputation, and DEIA Meet,” exposed how culture can undermine inclusion because of its historical connection to discriminatory practices. Though these practices no longer exist, the culture still endorses and condones bias. Through this piece, I raised awareness, sparked conversations, and asked leaders to abandon biased ideology.
Beyond readership, I aspire to leverage my writing to pursue public speaking opportunities and partnerships with likeminded individuals and organizations. These initiatives will spread a message of hope and motivate individuals to become change agents in their communities, all to support a more equitable world.
